The children share an outdoor learning space and have a playtime with all of the Year 1 children. During their indoor learning time, the children remain within their own classrooms.
In Year 1, the children transition from the play-based learning they will have experienced in Year R to the more structured learning in the Key Stage One curriculum. Each morning the children will have a Maths, English and Phonics session. In the afternoons, the children will complete handwriting and reading activities as part of their learning. There are continued opportunities for play-based activities both inside and outside the classroom throughout the school day. Foundation subjects will be covered as listed on the term learning journey overview. PHSE and Music sessions are taught weekly. Currently Year 1 PE days are Wednesday and Thursdays.

Below are the Learning Adventures we will be exploring during the Autumn Term:
Autumn Term Highlights
In Autumn 1, Year 1 loved dressing up as pirates. We enjoyed sharing pirate stories and learnt some sea shanties. We began to explore maps in Geography and make our own pirate puppets in DT. On our 'welly walk' we discovered some treasure from the pirates as a reward for writing such good instruction for them.
In Autumn 2, Year 1 explored how to be a good knight. As part of our learning about castles, we used non-fiction books and websites to find out information. In art we designed and made a dragon sculpture. We also did an amazing job learning all the songs for our Christmas play 'Born in a Barn'.
